Chimney Cap Installation · San Antonio

One small part. Three big problems it keeps out.

The cap is the metal cover that sits over your flue opening at the very top of the chimney. It's one of the least expensive parts of the whole structure, and it does three jobs at once: it keeps rain out of the flue, it blocks birds, squirrels, and raccoons from nesting inside, and it stops stray sparks from landing on your roof.

Leave it off, or let a rusted one fail, and you invite all three back in. A missing cap is one of the most common (and most preventable) causes of chimney trouble in San Antonio.

Keeps Rain Out of the Flue

Water pouring straight down the flue rusts the damper, cracks the liner, and dampens the firebox. The cap stops it at the top.

Blocks Animals & Nests

Birds, squirrels, and raccoons love an open flue. A capped chimney with mesh keeps them (and the blockages they cause) out.

Stops Sparks From Escaping

The spark-arrestor mesh keeps burning embers from drifting onto your roof. Fitted and installed by certified & insured techs.

One Size Does Not Fit All

The Right Cap for Your Chimney

Flue count, opening size, and the look you want all decide which cap fits. We measure yours and install the one that's right, not the one that happens to be in stock.

Type 01

Single-Flue Cap

The standard cover for one flue, sized to your opening and secured to keep rain, animals, and sparks out

Type 02

Multi-Flue Cap

A single larger cap that covers several flues at once, ideal for chimneys with more than one liner up top

Type 03

Custom Shroud

A tall decorative cover that dresses up the chimney top while it protects, built to match your home

Type 04

Spark-Arrestor Cap

Built with the right mesh to stop burning embers from reaching the roof, important in dry Texas seasons

Type 05

Draft-Correcting Cap

A specialty cap that helps a smoky, poor-drawing chimney pull properly when wind or downdraft is the culprit

Not sure which one you need? That is what the free estimate is for, we measure and recommend before you spend a dollar.

You've Probably Noticed One of These

Signs Your Chimney Needs a Cap

Cap problems are often something you hear or find inside, not just something you see up top. Recognize any of these? The estimate is free.

Scratching or Chirping in the Flue

Sounds of movement, scratching, or birds coming from the chimney mean an animal has moved into an open flue. A capped chimney with mesh keeps them out for good.

Debris in the Firebox

Twigs, leaves, nesting material, or acorns sitting in the fireplace fell straight down an uncapped flue. That debris is also a fire and blockage hazard.

Rain Sounds or Water Inside

Hearing rain hit the bottom of the fireplace, or finding a damp firebox after a storm, means water is pouring straight down an open flue, rusting the damper as it goes.

A Musty or Animal Smell

A damp, musty, or animal odor drifting from the fireplace often points to moisture or a nest inside the flue, both things a cap would have kept out.

A Rusted or Damaged Cap

If you can see the existing cap is bent, rusted through, or missing its mesh, it is no longer doing its job, and the flue is exposed again.

No Cap at All Up There

Look up, or check with binoculars. If the flue is a bare open hole with nothing over it, your chimney is completely unprotected from all three threats.

A cap is a small, same-visit fix. Going without one invites water damage, animal removal, and blockage, each of which costs many times more.

Simple, Fast, Often Same Visit

How We Fit & Install Your Cap

A cap is one of the quickest jobs we do, but only when it is measured and secured right. Here is how it goes.

1

Measure the Flue, Not Guess It

A cap only works if it actually fits. We measure your flue opening (or openings) and check the crown it sits on, so the cap seats correctly instead of blowing off in the next storm. Call (726) 259-1693 or send the form for a free estimate.

2

Recommend the Right Cap

Single-flue, multi-flue, a custom shroud, or a spark-arrestor or draft-correcting cap, we match the type and material to your chimney and how you use it. You approve it before we order anything, in writing.

3

Install It & Secure It

We fit the cap and fasten it properly so it stays put through wind and weather, not wedged on to fall off later. Most caps are fitted and installed the same visit, and we clean up before we leave.

4

Protected & Warrantied

Rain, animals, and sparks are shut out, and the install is done by certified & insured technicians and backed by our 3-year workmanship warranty in writing. One small part, doing its three jobs for years.

Why Homeowners Have Us Cap It

A Cap Is Only as Good as the Install

The right cap wedged on wrong still blows off. Here is what makes ours stay put and keep working.

Measured & Secured

Sized to your exact flue and fastened to stay put through wind and storms, not a generic cap jammed on that lifts off the first bad night.

Materials That Last

Quality caps built to survive Texas sun and weather, not thin covers that rust through in a couple of years and leave the flue open again.

The Right Cap for the Job

Single-flue, multi-flue, shroud, spark-arrestor, or draft-correcting, we fit the type your chimney needs, not whatever happens to be on the truck.

Certified, Insured & Warrantied

All work by certified & insured technicians, backed by a 3-year workmanship warranty in writing. If it ever fails us, we come back and make it right.

Cap Questions

Chimney Cap FAQ

Straight answers about the smallest part that does the most.

If you'd rather not have rain, animals, and sparks coming and going through an open hole in your roof, then yes. A cap is the single most cost-effective part on a chimney. It blocks all three at once, and it costs a fraction of the water damage, animal removal, or roof fire that an open flue can cause.
It depends on the type and size, a single-flue cap is very different from a large multi-flue cover or a custom shroud, and material matters too. It is one of the more affordable jobs we do, and the estimate is free, so you get a real number for your chimney with no obligation. No service call fee to come measure.
Yes, that's one of its main jobs. A proper cap includes mesh sizing that blocks birds, squirrels, and raccoons from getting into the flue to nest, while still letting smoke and gases out. If you already hear something in there, we'll make sure it's clear before we cap it, so nothing gets sealed in.
Almost always because it was the wrong size or never properly secured, just wedged on. A cap that fits the flue and is fastened correctly stays put through wind and storms. That's exactly why we measure first and secure the install, instead of relying on friction to hold it.
Good question, they're easy to confuse. The cap covers the flue opening. The crown is the concrete slab across the top of a masonry chimney. A chase cover is the metal top on a factory-built (framed) chimney, which the cap then sits on. We install and repair all of them, and we'll tell you which yours needs.
It depends how many flues stick up out of your chimney. One flue takes a single-flue cap. Two or more can take individual caps or a single multi-flue cover that spans them all, which often looks cleaner. You don't have to figure this out, we measure it at the estimate and recommend the best fit.
Often, yes, standard caps that we carry can frequently be measured and installed on the same visit. Custom shrouds or unusual sizes may need to be ordered first, but those are the exception. Either way we'll tell you the timeline up front.
It can, a missing cap lets rain pour straight down the flue, so capping it stops that path. But a cap alone won't fix water getting in through the crown, flashing, or brick. If you're already seeing stains or drips, start on our leak repair page so we find the actual source, active leaks get priority scheduling.
